Reports from some sources in Italy suggest Max Allegri is in contention for the Italy job, should Italy fail to qualify for World Cup 2018.

Qualification hangs in the balance as the Azzurri are a goal down from the first leg in Stockholm, knowing that they need to score in the home-leg at the San Siro tonight.

As such, anything other than qualification is almost certain to result in the sacking of current coach Giampiero Ventura with a number of names being linked to the Azzurri bench.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonio Conte is being touted for a possible return to the national side, while Carlo Ancelotti is “the first option being considered” along with Juventus Coach Max Allegri.

The Livorno native recently agreed an extension to keep him at the club until 2020, however he has previously reported being interested in coaching the national side, should the opportunity present itself.
