Juventus Transfer Targets 2009/10
Off to a good start
So, the transfer window opens in just a few days and Juventus look set to buy, sell and trade their way across the 'mercato' with customary aplomb. The last few seasons on the transfer front have been disappointing to say the least with Alessio Secco coming under fire for signing such noteworthy flops as Sergio Almiron, Dario Knezevic, Christian Poulsen and of course, Tiago Mendes.

diego Despite all that, Juventus have gotten off to a great start this season by signing Brazilian wonder-kid, Diego for a hefty € 24.5 Million, fending off the attentions of clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich. New coach Ciro Ferrara has been quick to assure the fantasista that he will be accommodated in the new-look Juventus line-up by opting for a 4-3-1-2 formation.

diego Next up, Juve have turned their attention to a back line which has looked so fragile at times in the season past. The club have always built their squads from the back and with a former defender now coaching the squad, the need for a defensive leaderhas become evident. With that in mind, Fabio Cannavaro has returned to Juventus on a free transfer having spent 3 seasons with Real Madrid in La Liga.

The decision to bring the Azurri captain back to Juventus has left the fans divided with many still bitter over his decision to depart the club following their demotion to Serie B. With a tough and grueling season ahead, many believe the 35 year old is set for a torrid time back in Serie A and question his ability to still perform at the highest level. Can he still cut it at the biggest club in Italy ? Any betting man will tell you, don't write off the horse until the race is done !

What next ?
With two decent signings Juventus have made a good start, but what's next for the Bianconeri ?

dago Gaetano D'Agostino

The season wouldn't be complete without a customary drawn-out transfer saga and this year, Gaetano D'Agostino is that player ! Last year, Juve haggled long and hard over the transfer of Xabi Alonso, ultimately losing out and having to settle for Christian Poulsen. Despite ongoing negotiations with Udinese and a promise that the deal was done, Juventus now look set to pass on D'Agostino as they haggle over the clubs valuation of € 20 million. Udinese have suggested the transfer of either Giovinco, Marchisio or De Ceglie to help move things along but Juve are not prepared to part with their future stars.

dago Giuseppe Rossi

With an array of attacking talent at their disposal, do Juventus really need another striker, especially on valued at € 20 million ? When that striker is Giuseppe Rossi, it's always worth considering. The talented Villareal man has stressed his desire to return to Italy and Juventus are amongst the many clubs looking to accommodate the young talent. The departure of David Trezeguet may have helped fund the move, but with the Frenchman now set to stay at Juventus, perhaps Juve will have to miss out?

dago Fabio Grosso

With Christian Molinaro already out with a long term injury, the news that Paolo De Ceglie had distorted his left calf came as a blow. Despite the news, Juve were already in the market for a left-back and were debating between Fabio Grosso and fellow countryman Andrea Dossena. Grosso has had an indifferent stay in France with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon and made his desire to return to Italy very vocal; Dossena on the other hand seems to be caught in two minds, recently stating his desire to stay at Liverpool. With a valuation of about € 2.5 million, Grosso looks the cheaper and more reliable of the two options and all the talk suggests a deal is already done.

diarra Mahamadou Diarra

Diarra has been strongly recommended by the returning Fabio Cannavaro and Juve directors appear to have taken notice. With Real Madrid asking at least € 17 million a move looked unlikely at first but with Udinese sticking to their guns over the price of D'Agostino, Juve may yet turn their attention to the Malian midfielder.

The new season

With only a few days left, the market looks set to get into full swing and with the football betting already favouring Inter for the title next season, Juventus are going to have to work hard to build a squad capable of overthrowing the current champions. AC Milan have lost Kaka and Inter may yet lose Ibrahimovic to La Liga or the premiership and with the loss of those key players, the Scudetto may seem a realistic target once again for la vecchia signora !

FORZA JUVE !
