Blaise Matuidi to Juventus

August 12, 2017

Juventus are edging ever closer to signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

The Bianconeri are running out of time in the search for a new central midfielder and it appears they may have to settle for French international Matuidi who has been linked with the club for the past two seasons.

PSG are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Monaco midfielder Fabinho which would free up Matuidi for the Bianconeri.

RAI Sport report that Juve will pay between €20-25m for Matuidi who will join the club on a four-year contract worth €4m per season.

    Sounds like Hernanes.
    Why not SNz from Sevilla?

No so much money for a 30 year old fucker.
    Juve …..

20 mill is more than enough! Give him a three, not four, year contract. 32 years and out.
The next couple of years he might be a upgrade on Sturaro.

    • he’s literally a stop-gap player for two-three seasons at most.
It’s a shame we’re still having to resort to this but we’ve left it too late it seems.

  • For what its worth, this is such a stinker of a transfer – I’ll take it and i’ll support him once he’s in the Juve colours, but for a little extra, we could have got someone much better. This just reeks of poor planning and last minute buying. We should have sounded out Can by now or gone all in for Savic. N’Zonzi would be better than Matuidi for me.

We need someone, but not anyone. Getting someone good in this position seems to haunt us at transfer windows. But why?

    • It’s a good question bud – It just reeks of poor planning. I was discussing this with someone else the other day. In these last 6 years, i don’t think we’ve ever had a ‘complete’ team in the sense of fixing our problems in every single position.
Under Conte we lacked a quality attack but had the midfield.
Under Allegri we had perhaps one season when we were at our absolute best, but we lacked a proper LB. Now we’ve come full circle with a terrifying attack, an average midfield and a ‘good’ defence. For me, we lack another CB, RB and cover for Sandro.

My only guess, in answer to the original question, is the lack of quality available options ? Matic was United bound and on the decline. N’Zonzi too expensive for a 30 year old, Emre Can wants to stay at Liverpool. the likes of Kroos would never leave Madrid and the rest of Serie A knows what we need so the prices get ramped up!

      Matuidi it is then….

This transfer will go in with the rest of pointless buys we’ve had in the past (hernanes, rincon, Lemina, sturaro etccc). If money is going to be invested why not spend it for someone who has a future there. If we can’t hit our target i don’t understand why Mandragora was loaned out. I guess Bentacur might fill the void? Hopefullly they give the kid a chance. Matuidi is a fix for a year at best, maybe year and half but he is on the decline.

On a side note “Gasperini: “Spinazzola? His farewell was a predicted hypothesis.”. Still doesn’t fill the midfield void?

    • You’re right – sounds like a stinker of a last minute Hernanes type deal.
Not really addressing the problem we’ve had in midfield since Arturo left – Could easily have spent a larger amount to secure our man, especially as we’re actually in profit in a big way overall and in profit this season as well with all the departures over the last few weeks.
Would rather we had made a 50m bid for Savic – Lotito would be hard pressed to turn that down. I hope we raid Lazio this summer and the next and get De Vrij for nothing.

The only player left I want to see change colors is Keita Balde, he has tremendous potential. I guess we will probably play without a DM this year since Sturaro is not a starter and Khedira can’t really fill the role.

I think Juve management sat down and said, we have 2 weak spots right now, which do we focus on: wingers for both sides or a hustler in midfield.

We know the answer now. With this attack, I think we should expect 2 goals in each game, no matter the opponent. Far more offensive style to start now? Score more, concede more.

Matuidi wasnt bad in my eyes when I saw him for France. Seems to have 3 lungs!

    • BelgianJuventino

And yes a bit poor in technique and passing, but is it really that awful? We have so much technique up front, I think Matuidi isnt as bad as people think he is.

Or I am just overpositive right now, taking a first day off in over 2years of hard work

Like the Moderator posted a bit down below, we are not really addressing the problem. We are just bringing in someone to fill a hole we are well aware of exists. Instead of concrete we are filling it with plaster, and hoping no one will notice, or like you said, that the rest of the team will make the plaster hold together. Clearly as we witnessed in the CL final against Real Madrid, a team is not stronger than it’s weakest link. If we, and we surely will, encounter a strong side like Real Madrid we will get demolished through our weakest link, which is in the middle of the field. And then we will sit here and discuss how management should have brought in concrete instead of plaster.

        Enjoy your day off =)
I hope it gives you a chance to watch the game tonight.
Swedish television wont show it so I’ll have to find a stream, youtube channel or something.

            Thanks mate.

I remembered that I have Rai 1. They showed the game. Too bad it didn’t go the way I hoped =(

        • BelgianJuventino

          Thank you mate 🙂

Yes, Matuidi isnt perfect, but I dont think he is a horrible buy either.

When the talent isnt available, Its better to buy a guy like Matuidi with that intense determination and work rate than to leave the gap open I’d say.

Cant really go with Bentancur and expect him to do great against RM or Bayern just like that either

          • VonKellef

No, that would be too much weight on the young lads shoulders(Bentancur). He has to be given time to integrate.

If Matuidi becomes a Juve player I hope he proves me wrong and becomes the best DM in the history of football. Besides from the exaggeration I love to be proven wrong by Juve players.

  • BelgianJuventino

Self employed indeed mate! Avoid me!

  • Mikkel Andersen

De Sciglio is not good enough. Can’t take on another player.

    • VonKellef

Wow, that one on one defending against Jordan Lukaku really didn’t make it any easier to defend De Sciglio. The lad is gonna have a tough time convincing us he is ready for the big league. I truly hope that this was his last bad performance and that he will only get better from here on out!

      • JuventusBuffon

He needs to get his shit together fast, otherwise he’ll be gone by January (Lucio treatment). His only saving grace is that he’s young, barely..

        • Mikkel Andersen

          A faster defender NOW

  • Mikkel Andersen

Thought the same. Not even close to a top 30 defender in his position ;-(

  • Donvincenzo

I wish we’d put the time and money into a younger, more pacey player. Clearly our biggest weakness is just getting caught out and beat. Benatia, Barzagli, Khedira, Asamoah, all the case. Who’s to say Matuidi wouldn’t be the same- and as many people have touched upon, just another disappointing Hernanes-type buy.

Look towards Andre Gomes or Sergej Mili-Sav, maybe even Carvalho or a loan deal for Renato Sanches. We need to avoid a sluggish midfield. We were on the right path when we looked towards Dani Ceballos, but that didn’t last long. We need someone fresh (but more experienced than say, Bentancur), commanding, and aware.

Also, let’s PLEASE purchase Cancelo. De Sciglio is obviously far from the solution.

    • Donvincenzo

      I’d take Sergi Roberto too

  • Shanks

I wish we signed Tolisso. I hear his play style is similar to Vidal’s. A box to box CM. Jeez, we sorely need some of that. Also, I don’t know why Khedira started over Marchisio in the SC.

    • Donvincenzo

Yep. Really missed out big on that one. Tolisso would have been perfect, and covered everything we are missing.
