Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta has distanced the club from any transfers in the January window, insisting that the Bianconeri will not be buying any new players.

As the winter break approaches, the January transfer window is set open on the 1st and close on the 31st, with various moves being lined up as clubs look to strengthen their squads for the Champions League and domestic competitions.

The Bianconeri have been linked with a series of player, most notable Liverpool midfielder Emre Can who is expected to leave the club. The German international is into the last year of his contract with the Red’s and he’s yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Juventus were close to signing the 24-year-old in the summer transfer window, only for Liverpool to refuse all offers. Despite the failure to agree terms, it was reported that Juve would return in the winter to agree personal terms with Can, with an eye to agreeing a move for the summer.

Speaking to Domenica Sportiva, Marotta appeared to distance himself from any possible winter transfers, insisting that the club had done their work during the summer.

“We will not sign anybody in January,” Marotta told the channel.

“We are currently achieving our objectives in the Champions League, where we have a hard group.”

The Bianconeri are typically reluctant to invest during the winter, their sole acquisitions in recent seasons being Tomas Rincon from Genoa and Mattia Caldara from Atalanta.

Despite seemingly distancing Juventus from any possible moves, it’s entirely possible that should Can fail to agree terms with Liverpool on a new deal, the Bianconeri may steal in with an offer. The club is able to speak with the midfielders representatives and agree personal terms up to 58 days before his contract with The Reds ends.

Kwadwo Asamoah is another player in the final year of his contract and he was seemingly on the verge of a transfer to Turkish club Galatasaray shortly before the window closed in August. Juventus were reluctant to allow the versatile Ghanaian to leave, considering they were unable to secure the early return of Leonardo Spinazzola from Atalanta.

As such, Juve could lose Asamoah for free next summer, or cash in on the player by agreeing a deal with Galatasaray in January. The Turks are expected to return with another offer for the midfielder in the coming weeks, and a sizeable bid may be enough to convince Juventus to part with ‘Kojo’ – The player has been a stalwart over the years, making 135 appearances in all competitions for Juve, while scoring 5 goals in all competitions. Asamoah joined from Udinese Calcio and began his Bianconeri career playing in the heart of midfield alongside Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Paul Pogba, Emmanule Giacherini and Arturo Vidal, before being converted to a left-back position where he now deputizes and alternates with Brazilian full-back Alex Sandro.
