Benedikt Howedes can only arrive “on loan with option to buy,” according to Beppe Marotta, while Emre Can may be an option for next summer.
The Juve director spoke ahead of Juve’s 4-2 victory over Genoa and dropped some hints about the close of the summer transfer window and beyond.
“Howedes wants to join Juve, but that is not enough. We are negotiating with Schalke and if we do close a deal, it’ll be on loan with option to buy,” Marotta told Mediaset Premium.
“If it’s not done over the next few days, we will seek alternatives.
“Liverpool are holding on tight to Emre Can. His contract expires in June, we’ll be able to negotiate with him from January. We won’t hide the fact we like him, but currently he is a Liverpool player, so we can only admire him from afar.
“As for Schick, it was a coincidence that I ran into Antonio Romei. We also spoke about Schick, but we admire a good talent and expressed regret that it ended this way.
“After the medical, we proposed a loan for €8m that would’ve taken €30m into their coffers. As far as we were concerned, the negotiations ended there and did not open up again.
“It’s only right that Daniele Rugani goes through his apprenticeship, just as Leonardo Bonucci did before him. Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi are on long-term contracts, so there is plenty of time to get the best out of them and it starts with adapting the right way.”
I get trying to make the most out of any deal but why offer sampadoria a loan deal, it seems like the medical issue was really a non issue. You’re nickel and dimming on the transfer but have no problem spending 17$ million for a backup keeper, another $20 for a shitty defender(benatia)…. really strange.
I think they’re trying to balance out pipita still in the accounting books. If you look at the mercato so far this year, we have a net spend of close to nothing. And a loan is an easy way to balance for 1 year. Also, in regards to Keita and Schick, while good, I can’t see them really breaking into the first team regularly and young players must play consistently to keep their form and transfer value. Being the 3rd choice option isn’t probably the best thing for those players. And, we won’t even start the 1st team quality players we’ve signed already this summer.
I wonder what is Allegri’s thought process on starting the attacking players we’ve signed. I know for a fact Costa is better than Cuadrado and Matuidi is better than Khedira. I suppose he’s keeping them until mid-season.
Allegri has always been slow to integrate new players at Juve. Especially young ones. Part of me believes it’s how intelligent he is not only tactically, but with man management, but part of me is starting to believe after the battering he took at Milan from rotating so much that he’s hesitant to make changes to quickly so he can avoid a repeat. Maybe because we keep winning there’s a bit is the old adage, “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” But, if you’ve seen the team thus far this year, not only are we missing the match sharpness tactically, we look out of shape physically. So, maybe there’s a component of using players who understand the system until full fitness. I can’t argue at all the Costa and Matuidi are better options, but I don’t see allegri making these changes until he is good and ready or forced into it through injury or suspension. Not only that, but he’s also slow on making subs. There’s been times when we’ve needed a change in the 55th minute and haven’t seen someone new introduced until the 75th. All in all, it’s really difficult to pinpoint one reason for certain. Although I did read today that Douglas Costa will not be going on international duty to work with max directly on his fitness and understanding of the system and once the break is over will be a guaranteed starter. I’m not super familiar with the source, so I can’t say if that info is good or bad right now. I think our best bet is that we keep hoping that then new signings integrate quickly and it doesn’t take another loss like fiorentina last year when we changed system to wake us up.
to settle the defence first
Travis, I think your comments about the man management in spot on. Think about this, the two players you mentioned helped us reach the CL final and win everything domestically, they have earned the right to lose their starting spots. Costa is an obvious upgrade but you need to show loyalty to players to a certain extent. Cuadrado will probably play his way out of the starting job and the players will understand and respect the change, the locker room stays behind the manager that way. Im not sure if you follow any of the players on social media but its obvious there are genuine friendships within the squad, I understand these players should be 100% professional but you just dont know how the squad will react seeing a brother taken out by a newcomer, I obviously am not certain these things would transpire but if you are Allegri its better to be cautious especially when you are still getting results.
Without dispute, everyone should earn their spot. That’s the point of depth, to raise the level of each individual to compete against each other and bring out their best.
Have yourself a good chuckle at this one: I am 26, and I have no social media. So, no, I don’t follow any of them on social media. Hahaha
