Juventus’ senior squad beat the Primavera 3-1 in the traditional inter-team test, while John Elkann pledges “success and entertainment.”
Every summer pre-season training includes a game between the two Juve sides at the Villar Perosa training ground.
Last night Ciro Ferrara had few options, as 12 players were away on international duty, but still had a front three of Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Amauri.
It was surprisingly the Primavera youth side that broke the deadlock within 120 seconds, as Antonio Chimenti only parried a Libertazzi shot into the path of Simone Esposito.
Trez and Amauri went close before the Frenchman equalised with a trademark header. Amauri turned it around in the second half on Marrone’s assist, then De Paola nodded in a corner kick.
Patron Elkann (pictured) was in the stands and gave his view on the season that awaits Juventus fans.
“This is a strong side, thanks also to the confirmation of players like Trezeguet, but it still has to prove its worth on the field.
“Our ambition is to win, but also mix success with entertainment.”
Last week the Bianconeri posted their results for the financial year and are one of the few clubs in European football running at a profit.
“As we have all said many times, our objective is to be self-sufficient and guarantee a future for Juventus.”
Elkann was also asked how big the gap with Scudetto favourites Inter is now, but he referenced their recent Italian Super Cup defeat in Beijing.
