Arsenal still interested in Melo

Wednesday 3rd March, 2010 | Football Italia

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is still interested in signing Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo.

The Gunners were in the race to buy him last summer, but ultimately missed out as Fiorentina sold him to Juve for nearly £20m.

Melo has been a real disappointment in Turin and was voted the worst signing of the season in December.

However, his performances have picked up under Alberto Zaccheroni and he is still a regular in the Brazilian national team.

“We were interested in Melo last year,” Wenger told the Daily Telegraph.

“He has not had the season that everyone predicted he would. But we still think he is a very talented player. We are still looking at him.”

Juventus may try to cash in on the 26-year-old at the end of the season. However, they will be looking to recoup as much of their initial investment as possible.
