Juventus are giving serious thought to replacing Alberto Zaccheroni with Antonio Conte ahead of next season.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Juventus representatives have approached Conte on an informal basis.
The 40-year-old former midfield general, who was central to Marcello Lippi's Juventus teams throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, apparently rejected the top job last spring.
Conte was Jean-Claude Blanc's No 1 choice after he led Bari to a historic promotion back to Serie A playing some wonderful attacking football.
However, Conte didn't share Blanc's ideas, which are said to have included the return of Lippi either as a technical director or as President.
Conte resigned from his position with Bari and then took charge of Atalanta. He also resigned from that position in January after an ugly confrontation with the club's fans.
Juventus are reaching out to Conte again because while Fabio Capello is not beyond their financial reach, he is engaged in a World Cup during the summer and won't be able to start training the club until late in pre-season.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has also been sounded out, but extricating him from his current contract at Anfield would prove incredibly complicated. |
