Chiellini out for a month?

Monday 8th March, 2010 | Football Italia

There are fears Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini could be out for a month after a suspected thigh strain.

The Italian international pulled up during the final stages of last night’s 2-1 victory away to Fiorentina.

Juve had completed their substitutions, so he had to limp on in a more advanced role that did not require him to run.

There are fears Chiellini suffered a thigh strain, an injury that would keep him out for a month.

The defender also played 90 minutes in Italy’s 0-0 friendly with Cameroon on Wednesday, but Alberto Zaccheroni did not complain.

“I understand Marcello Lippi’s intentions, as it was his final test before naming the World Cup squad and Giorgio is one of the youngest. We have no issue with that.”

It would be the latest in a series of around 50 injuries in the Bianconeri squad this season.

Mauro Camoranesi, Gianluigi Buffon, Amauri, Sebastian Giovinco and Martin Caceres are all out with muscular problems.

Vincenzo Iaquinta made his comeback this weekend after four months on the sidelines, while Christian Poulsen also returned from a long lay-off.

Alessandro Del Piero was unable to feature in Florence due to a muscular twinge, an increasingly common problem in the Juventus squad.

Momo Sissoko and Paolo De Ceglie also limped off during the Fiorentina match.
