A few interesting tidbits to report today:
Juve Draw Sturm Graz
The draw for the next qualifying stage of the Europa League has been made, and luckily enough, Juventus have a seemingly straight forward tie against Austrian side, Sturm Graz. I'll be the first to say I don't know too much about the side so it might be a little flippant to say the tie will be straight forward, but given our current lineup, you'd think we can manage it, wouldn't you ? If you're a little more interested in Sturm Graz, then here are some facts:
- Sturm Graz were founded in 1909.
- The club's unusual name comes from the German word for storm, reflecting the weather on the day a group of drenched enthusiasts set up the club in the Austrian town of Graz.
- Sturm made history when - after making it to the 1948 Cup Final - they became the first provincial side to enter Austria's top flight.
- In 1998 Sturm Graz won their first league championship title by a massive 19-point margin.
- The late 1990's saw Sturm enjoy a golden era, winning the league twice - in 1997/1998 and 1998/1999 - and lifting the Austrian Cup on three occasions - in 1996, 1997 and in 1999.
- In their 2000/01 UEFA Champions League campaign Sturm Graz reached the second group phase, enjoying victories over AS Monaco, Rangers FC and Galatasaray SK to top their group in the first phase and then twice beating Panathinaikos FC.
- In February 2006, SK Sturm Graz changed the name of their stadium from the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium to the UPC-Arena.
- SK Sturm Graz are the current holders of the ÖFB-Cup, the Austrian equivalent of the FA Cup.
Emmanuel Adebayor to stay at Man City
Phew - Man City come straight out and say they have no intention of selling Ade: "Take it from us everyone, despite reports, MCFC has no plans to sell Emmanuel Adebayor; our new No 9 for this season – and that's official.” Juve supporters across the globe can all give a collective sigh of relief - I'm pretty sure i speak for most when i say - WE NEVER BLOODY WANTED HIM ! Juve admit Dzeko defeat
I thought we admitted defeat over this guy ages ago ? In fact, i though it was all just a diversion ? Anyway, looks like we won't be splashing out millions on another striker when we already have 3 target men and one wizard (Del Piero). Seeing as Marotta has come out and confirmed what we all knew a while back, the indication is that our 1 non-EU player this season will be Milos Krasic - No idea when we'll sign him though. Ah well, read more about Dzeko here
Poulsen set for exit
It seems Christian Poulsen's brief tenure at Juventus is all but over. According to his representative, Jorn Bonnesen: "It won't take more than a week before this is sorted out. It might be already in the beginning of next week. Christian Poulsen is Roy's man.He will be playing as defensive midfielder at Liverpool. I returned home with a good and positive impression."
Excellent news for us as he was always going to be surplus to requirements, given that we'll be reverting to playing with 2 central midfielder's with 2 wide men. The indication is that Momo Sissoko and Claudio Marchisio will be the two to start, with Felipe 'mad man' Melo as a reserve. Read more about the move here |
