Rumour Roundup
Thursday 4th August, 2011 | Juvefc.com

It's that time again - Here's a roundup of the latest rumours doing the rounds:

Juve turn to Elia

Eljero Elia is back on the Juve radar, according to Tuttosport. The Dutchman was a known target for Juventus last summer and it's rumoured Beppe Marotta will return his attention to the Hamburg player to play wide midfield in Antonio Conte's 4-4-2.

Marotta on Juve's Mr.X:

“There is no Mr X for us. We already know what we want, we just don’t want to divulge their names. You can’t sell the fur of a bear before you have it in your possession. We have certain needs, but we have to go about it in an ethical way by not overpaying for players. Boss Antonio Conte wants a competitive and consistent squad . We will try to please him. Juventus want to get back to winning. The quality of the team has notably been improved and that is a good omen.”

Bonucci staying at Juventus

Juventus have publicly stated that Leonardo Bonucci is not for sale. Rumours of a potential transfer for the defender have been rife all summer and earlier this week, it was claimed Zenit St Petersburg had made a bid the player. Beppe Marotta has this to say : “It’s true that Zenit made an offer for him, but we are counting on him. Leonardo is young and last season was his first experience at a big club. We’ll continue with him in the new season. We don’t want to satisfy the request of the Russian club.”

Vargas unaware of Juventus bid

Juan Manuel Vargas of Fiorentina claim's he is unaware of any bid Juventus may have made for him. The Peruvian had this to say: “It’s all just newspaper speculation about Juventus. Up until this point, my representative has told me nothing. I’m very happy in Florence and I have a contract with them. We’ll just have to see if anything happens.”

Affelay staying at Barcelona

Ibrahim Afellay will not be leaving Barcelona this summer, despite paper-talk linking him to Juventus. His agent Robert Jansen had this to say: “My client will certainly stay in Spain. He’s happy at Barcelona. Have Juventus contacted me? There is no need to respond to this question because there are no doubts about Ibrahim’s future.”

Juventus v Bayern for Alex ?

Juventus are set to battle it out with Bayern once again, this time for Chelsea's Brazilian defender Alex. According to various reports doing the rounds, Beppe Marotta is interested in signing the Santos and PSV man as cover for the threadbare back line.

Juventus still interested in Poli

Juventus hope to use Sampdoria's interest in Alex Manninger to secure a deal for Andrea Poli. The midfielder is a favourite of Marotta's and the former 'Doria Director is rumoured to be proposing a deal that would see Juventus net 50% of the talented youngster.
