Transfer Rumour Roundup – Orsolini, Evra, Zaza and more

January 7, 2017

Juventus have been linked with a number of transfer moves including the possible arrival of a new left-back to potentially replace Patrice Evra, while Simone Zaza is close to agreeing a move to Valencia.

It’s that time of the year again when we collectively brace ourselves for an onslaught of transfer stories, the majority of which never become anything more than filler for the papers and websites. Despite my scepticism, there seems to be some genuine interest in Juve players this winter along with some possible interest of our own in fledgling talents as we keep one eye on the future. Without further ado, here’s a brief roundup of the state of player with the big stories doing the rounds.

Simone Zaza

The Italian striker endured a torrid few months at West Ham where it seems he failed to settle and only managed a handful of appearances for the Premier League side. As such, his transfer clause wasn’t activated and he’s returned to Italy with a number of Serie A clubs interested in acquiring his services. The latest news linked him to Fiorentina where he could become a direct replacement for Nikola Kalinić who is expected to complete a big-money move to… guessed it, China. Other options include AC Milan where he could become the focal point of their attack, taking over from Carlos Bacca who’s been linked with a big-money move to… get the idea. Despite the players desire to remain in Italy, news this morning links Zaza to La Liga club Valencia – He’s reportedly given the ok to a loan move which would include an option to buy set at €16m after a set number of appearances. One thing seems certain – Zaza is unlikely to remain at Juventus.

Patrice Evra

Despite having a contract until the summer, it seems Zio Pat is on the verge of leaving Juventus, hot on the heels of his woeful display in the Supercoppa defeat to AC Milan. Sky Sport Italia report that Evra is considering a switch to Valencia where Juve are already in talks over a deal for Zaza, although the Frenchman is also keen to hear more about reported interest from his old club, Manchester United. It’s suggested Evra could join United on a 6 month-deal as they make a push to secure Champions League football for next season. You can get the latest odds on United’s chances as well as lots of other great betting offers on my betting sites. Once his contract is over, Evra is expected to retire and make the switch to join Jose Mourinho’s staff at the club.

Adam Masina

As expected, with Evra’s rumoured departure, a number of names have been touted as his possible replacement, the strongest candidate being left-back Adam Masina. The highly-rated 23-year-old is a product of the Bologna’s youth academy and Gazzetta dello Sport maintain that he’s a realistic target for the Bianconeri. The Moroccan-born defender has managed 3 goals in 80 senior appearances and is widely considered to be a future star for the Azzurri. Watch this space.

Riccardo Orsolini

Next up, we have the most exciting news of the lot – Juventus director Fabio Paratici was pictured meeting with Ascoli officials in Milan leading to reports that the Bianconeri were in talks to sign 19-year-old winger Riccardo Orsolini. Ascoli director Giaretta confirmed the talks, explaining that :

“There was an initial exploratory meeting with Juventus for Orsolini, but for now it’s just a chat, nothing in-depth. The two clubs are reflecting on some issues.”

It’s an exciting move, if it materialises, especially as Orsolini is widely considering a hugely promising young talent at both club and national level. Reports in the this morning’s CdS suggest that a deal has already been struck for €5.5m including bonus…..although it’s probably better to wait for

Here’s the obligatory Youtube compilation video to whet you appetites:

Steven N’Zonzi

An ongoing rumour that refuses to die: Various papers in Italy, France and Spain report that Juve are prepared to activate Steven N’Zonzi’s €30m release clause. A bizarre report in L’Equipe suggests that the Frenchman is Juve’s ‘No.1 target’ and he’s already rejected a contract renewal with Sevilla in the hopes of completing a move to Juventus. A strange story from start to end as the player only seems to have played a few good seasons in his career and Juve now have Rincon and others in midfield who can do a similar job. Let’s hope this remains a transfer rumour and little more.

Riccardo Orsolini looks impressive in the YouTube compilation. It’s only Serie B, but I see more excitement and potential in him than I ever did in Domenico Berardi. Let’s hope he keeps growing and Juve snap him up.

  • I will be happy with Orsolini tied up, who we have been pondering for a while now and perhaps have been sparked into action by Napoli’s eagerness to sign him. A fair few reports suggest the fee is agreed between the clubs, with the fine details between player and Juve to be finalised tomorrow. No space for him in our ranks, so a loan seems logical, now or in the Summer. Atalanta were keen…

Speaking which, indeed, Caldara sewn up as well. Two solid moves for the up and coming starlets.

Other moves underway or complete –
    Pozzebon to Piacenza
Thiam, Mandragora and Cerri to Pescara
    Romagna to Brescia
Possibly Cubas to Pescara (if we find some deal with them)

My own thoughts on Evra are that we remain focused on De Sciglio or a foreigner to be freed up in the Summer, perhaps the Schalke lad. As I mentioned elsewhere…could be a salvation for Asamoah who could reprise his old role. He has been poor since returning from long term injury, before which he was our first choice LWB for many moons.

Also…Federico Mattiello is an option in the role, after finally returning to full fitness from his second horrific leg break in a handful of years. Just when he may well have found himself on the bench for the seniors (with Sandro injured until late Jan and Evra possibly readying for a move) he breaks his snout in training…He is either made of glass or wretchedly unlucky.

Sakor and Bouy have returned from their respective loans, the latter deal cut short early due to lack of playing time…Both will be found clubs in the coming weeks.

he’s like a Pjaca at the back, so much trickery! and who better than Alves and Sandro to season him; why do you say there is no space though? when Evra leaves wont he just fill that void? i mean that’s why we are buying him after all?

also what about Pol Lirola? why don’t we just cut his loan short and have him return to us?

      • Gerald, old chum…not at all a defensive player, Orsolini is a wide forward or winger. So it has nothing to do with Evra.

Cutting Pol’s loan short leaves Sassuolo in a pickle and would sour relations between the clubs. Which neither party wishes to see happen. I suspect that there may be some discussions of the matter now or in the Summer, yet unless they have a replacement lined up why would they smile and say no problem, Juve, just tell us when you want to loan a player, we can develop him and you pull the plug as you please!

He has made 15 appearances and is very much in and around the first XI…

oh my bad i thought he was a RWB/LWB. lol yea thats true, you know anything regarding Pjaca’s injury? havent seen an update in a while

Orsolini does look very impressive in these videos and I am a sucker for a dribbler as I think serie lacks dribbling talent. His shooting seems average at best, crossing is decent I guess and the positioning isnt too bad. The only plus to this kid is really how well he can hold the ball and the wonderful touch he has. I remain cautious I guess, we have plenty of talent but no breakouts though: Stefano Sensi, Andres Tello, Francesco Cassata, Pol Lirola. These are all good lads and I guess Lirola has performed the best so far but there is allot of work to be done here. I rather see us give a bit more focus to Clemenza and Kean as these are the best of the bunch in my opinion. No reason either should be playing in the youth league honestly at this point especially Kean.
