Juventus have taken a more direct approach in their investments and are looking to sign the next big talent ahead of their traditional rivals, the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

With Giorgio Chiellini injured, Andrea Barzagli retired and Leonardo Bonucci suffering from a poor run of form last season, Juve opted to invest heavily in the transfer market this summer, the focus being the defence.

Within the space of a few months, they secured deals for promising Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero, opting to leave the 21-year-old on loan in Genoa in the hopes he will develop and one day make it to the Juve first team.

The second move was for Sassuolo’s Turkish defender, Merih Demiral, following his successful half season stint with the Neroverdi. This time La Madama opted to bring the 21-year-old to Turin and have him form part of the squad with the aim of having hi develop under the guidance of Chiellini and Bonucci.

The jewel in the crown was the capture of Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt for a fee just over €70m, throwing the youngster straight into the team and form a key-partnership with Bonucci at the back.

At a recent meeting, shareholders were asked to agree a further €300m investment in the club, a sign that Juve are now looking directly to compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United in aiming to secure the best young talents while making success in Europe their main aim.

As such, it’s reported that in as early as 2017, Juve director Fabio Paratici was in talks to try and sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Haaland, before he made it big.

This seems to be borne out with a picture surfacing of Haaland at the Juve Stadium around two years ago, joined by his father and agent.

According to The Guardian, Paratici made a more concerted effort to get the 19-year-old in 2018, however the youngster turned down the opportunity due to a perceived lack of playing time.

Juve are now looking to try again to sign the forward but the latest reports from Tuttosport in Italy suggest that Haaland will cost in excess of €100m and that there are at least 20 other teams also in the race.

Haaland has managed to score 23 goals in all competitions in just 17 appearances, impressing many with his performances in Europe which included goals against the like of Napoli and Liverpool.

The 19-year-old is believed to have been scouted by Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Napoli, Juventus, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City, while Red Bull Salzburg are apparently open to the idea of cashing in on him this summer.

Should the Bianconeru get their man, it would be beneficial to back them for European and domestic success next season. While it would be a gamble, Juve would represent a good investment and worthwhile wager.
