Juventus Player Ratings
Wojciech Szczęsny: A really quiet opening half for the keeper before he was called into action right on the 45 minute mark to make a remarkable reaction save. Mostly untroubled for the remainder of the game…..but that remarkable stop….wow. 7.5/10
Giorgio Chiellini: Seemed very in control in defence and ventured out on a few occasions to try and get the team moving forward. Made a number of vital clearances in the second half and made an important block. A towering display. 7.0/10
Leonardo Bonucci: Dictated play from deep and found some nice passes early on before Valencia started to frustrate the Juve play in the centre of the pitch. Poor in the air on a few occasions which led to the Valencia chance and the Szczesny save. 6.5/10
Joao Cancelo: A lively start as always, pressing up high and pressuring Gaya. His movement in the first half was really sharp and he might have done better late on when shooting instead of squaring the ball to Ronaldo. Switched flanks and led the charge which helped set up the opening goal. An exceptional player and one of the best buys of the summer. 7.5/10
Alex Sandro: Good play down the flank but he was limited in his delivery and seemed well guarded by Wass. Injured in the second half and duly substituted. 6.0/10
Rodrigo Bentancur: Started brightly but needlessly booked early in the game. Some good passing and a nice passage of play to beat 3 Valencia midfielders but his end product was lacking at times and he needs to take fewer touches. All that said, he is developing really well this season. 7.0/10
Miralem Pjanic: A tidy opening half but not much more of note. Made some wayward passes that looked really out of character and didn’t really create anything substantial for the team. Average. 6.0/10
Blaise Matuidi: Made a few runs forward but he looked a little off the pace at times and seemed to drift in and out of the game. His tackling can’t be faulted but he didn’t impost himself on the game and looked a little weary at times. 6.0/10
Mario Mandzukic: A towering display from the striker – He was quite literally everywhere on the pitch, working tirelessly in defence as well. You could see that he understood the physicality of Valencia’s game and was more than happy to get stuck in as a result. Took his goal really well and is starting to form a good understanding with Ronaldo up front. 8.5/10
Cristiano Ronaldo: Took just a few minutes to test Neto with a shot that went just wide before firing another straight at the Valencia keeper. Had three efforts on goal and was unlucky not to score – More than made up for it by providing a sublime assist where he seemed to beat the entire Valencia defence in a few step-overs. 7.5/10
Paulo Dybala: Played a free role at times and played some nice passes and through balls sitting behind the attack. His movement was good and he was unpredictable which caused Valencia problems, but at times, he held onto the ball for too long and was easily dispossessed. 6.5/10
Juan Cuadrado: Deserves praise for putting in a really hard-working display and keeping Juve safe at the back. 6.0/10
Douglas Costa: A late cameo showing. N/A
