Juventus were 3-1 up and cruising to victory thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo before collapsing to a brace of late goals that saw them eek a point in a disappointing 3-3 draw with Parma.
Juventus Player Ratings
Mattia Perin: Seeing the cross come in and Barilla sprinting at his far post, I would have hoped to see him try and narrow the angle or at least not give the Parma striker so much space to aim at. Instead, Perin was caught a little flat footed. It might be hard, but i think he could have done better on the second Parma goal as well and his positioning looked all wrong. The third goal, he managed to get a hand to but he wasn’t strong enough to parry it over the bar. A disappointing night and one where i can’t help but feel the young keeper should have done better overall. 5.0/10
Daniele Rugani: Gets an extra point for the goal he scored and great finish he provided. That said, I don’t think he was at fault for the opening goal as he went with his man – Should have been closer to Gervinho on Parma’s second as he clearly saw the Parma winger run into the box and he stood off him in the hopes Khedira would pick him up. A night to forget and I don’t think either centre-back was greatly aided by the midfielders in those moments where Parma pressed. 6.0/10
Matin Caceres: All things considered, I think he did okay for a first performance back in black and white. The only issue i’d take up was that he came out of the box on the third goal when maybe he should have hung back to be an extra body in the box. On both the other goals, he was trying to close down the angle or was simply marking his man. 6.0/10
Joao Cancelo: He made a couple of good passes but his usual attacking vim down the right flank seemed to be missing and he looked subdued at times. Perhaps Allegri’s words got to him but he didn’t look a fraction of the player he was a week back. 5.5/10
Leonardo Spinazzola: Another solid performance as he works his way back from injury and into contention for a starting spot. His work rate was excellent, providing an option in the attacking third with some smart crosses and passes. 6.0/10
Midfield
Sami Khedira: A marked improvement in the attacking sense as he hit the post twice and had another effort saved. Had he scored any of those goals , i’d give him a higher mark. As it is, he was okay in the strictest sense of the word, but he could and should have done better on at least two of the Parma goals. He clearly sees Barilla make the run, sees the cross and all too late, makes a laboured run to try and intercept. On the second, he clearly looks to the left to see Gervinho running into the box and gets caught in two minds and neither he nor Rugani communicate who is picking up the attacking player. Disappointing in some ways, better in others…..so somewhere slap bang in the middle. 5.0/10
Blaise Matuidi: A good assist for his efforts but he still looks all over the place. Too passive in the late part of the game and hasn’t really offered enough at either end of the pitch in recent games. Needs to step up. 6.0/10
Miralem Pjanic: Juve definitely look better for having him back and playing those smart passes around the pitch, and yet we still look to be lacking at times, especially in the centre of the pitch. Played some key passes and had a few half-efforts charged down. 6.0/10
Attack
Douglas Costa: Decent passes once he got going but only managed 45 mins before coming off with another injury. 5.5/10
Mario Mandzukic: His link up play with Ronaldo is excellent and his general physical presence means that when he gets into the box, he’s always taking two defenders with him. Had some half chances before playing a great cross for Ronaldo to score Juve’s third. Simply no idea what he was doing late in the game, trying to get a goal kick wit a really reckless punt of the ball. Expect better from one so experienced. 5.5/10
Cristiano Ronaldo: After a lacklustre couple of weeks, he bounced back in typical Ronaldo style with a brilliant brace, the second headed goal being particularly good. Had a hand in Rugani’s goal and looked dangerous all night. Best Juve player by far on the pitch. 8.0/10
Substitutes
Federico Bernardeschi: Played a good half but the action was all down the left, so he didn’t as much of the ball as he might have liked. A decent shift, hopefully his injury is nothing serious.. 5.5/10
Rodrigo Bentancur: Gave the midfield new legs late in the game and injected some pace into a tired team. Good passing, good tackling. N/A
Emre Can: Played a neat pass that should have resulted in a hattrick for Ronaldo late in the game. N/A
