After impressing at the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign, Juventus immediately pounced for the signature of Nicolò Rovella in January 2021.
However, the Bianconeri allowed the young midfielder to remain at Genoa for another 18 months in order to sharpen his skills.
This summer, the 21-year-old returns to the base, even if his future under Max Allegri remains unclear due to the strong competition for spots.
Nevertheless, the Italy U-21 international is hopeful of cementing himself a role in Turin, even though he’s disappointed for missing out on playing alongside Paulo Dybala and Giorgio Chiellini who left the club at the end of the season.
Rovella also expressed his grief for Genoa’s relegation, regretting being injured for a large part of the campaign which enabled him from helping his former team’s cause.
The midfielder also revealed his footballing idols, and one of them happens to be a Juventus legend.
“Wesley Sneijder and Claudio Marchisio are my two idols. I was obsessed with them. I watched them on the television and tried to imitate them,” said Rovella in an interview with Sportweek via ilBianconero.
“At the moment I’m not satisfied with what happened at Genoa. A little anxiety is normal, but I’m also excited. I feel ready and I hope to be up to it, because Juventus is a top club level. I hope to have my chance.
“I wanted to play with someone who is gone now, Dybala. I was so disappointed. And with Chiellini as well. But at Juve there are many champions left, like Vlahovic and Locatelli. I also know Perin and Pellegrini.
“Fagioli or myself? But you can always play with two midfielders, right? The coach will decide.”
Chielini the legend that`s true.
Well, is’s undestandable that he is sad about missing the chance to play with Juve legend Dybala
-the most succesfull offensive player in out 9 in a row era
-& the most succesfull offensive player for national titles (5 Scudetti & 4 Coppa Italia)
-a Top 10 topscorer of all time for Juve
A true Juve legend
Sure he was with juve longer than any other forward in the last decade. I would say the last two seasons he really took a few steps back because he could not play consistently due to covid and muscle injuries. His two best seasons were the first and the Sarri year. I think the additions of Higuain and Ronaldo kind of hampered his game. I think he was best that first year when he was playing like at Palermo as centre foward or a false 9. They never really built the team around him by acquiring those two. We will never really know how good he could have been because of this. He was always used out of place. Just because a guy is small doesnt mean he cant be a cf or striker. You just have to play a different game. I am always of the philosophy that you play the game with what you have. You make use of the talent you have. You dont force a square peg into a circular hole.
Unfortunately Rovella and all other youth will not get a chance because of Allegris philosophy on developing youth. Its unfortunate because i would rather play all of Fagioli, Ranocchia, Miretti, Rovella, Gatti, maybe even Dragusin. Especially if DeLigt is sold. Rather than buy Pogba. He is a ok player but dont forget those years. He was lifted by a solid Conte and Allegri team led by Pirlo, Marchisio, and Vidal. One of the most admired and feared mid feild trios of the last decade. Thats why he looked so good at Juve. Plus similar to dybala he has been getting stupi injuries frequently. Do you really want to give one up for the other. Pogba to me is nothing but hype for those juve fans that prefer foreign talent to home grown italian. Nothing but a shiney utensil. Of course thats what managment will give fans if that is what will gain them popularity and earn them money. If the fans wanted those young italian players i highly doubt they would care what Allegri thinks or what they promised him.
Dont forget they also have to unload ramsey, arthur, and rabiot. Which wont be easy
