Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt has won the Kopa Trophy at this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
The award for for best under-21 player of last season was previously won by Kylian M’Bappe who was on stage to present De Ligt with the award for his exploits with Ajax last season.
“I am really proud and happy,” De Ligt said of winning the award.
“I hope you all enjoy the evening at this wonderful venue. I’d like to thank Ajax, who taught me a lot, and Juventus, my new club, as well as my teammates.”
