Despite Genoa’s horrendous campaign, Andrea Cambiaso cemented himself as one of the true revelations of Serie A last season.
The young left-back’s exploits caught the attention of the big boys, but it was Juventus who eventually won the race for his signature, as Federico Cherubini and company identified him as the long-term replacement of Alex Sandro.
However, it remains to be seen where the Italian will spend the next campaign, as the Bianconeri may consider sending him on loan in order to gain additional Serie A experience.
Yet, this might not be the best option based on the experience of another two left-backs.
The first is Leonardo Spinazzola, who later gained fame on the international stage for his heroics during Euro 2020.
Nonetheless, the Italy international only reached this stage after leaving Juventus and signing for Roma.
During his time with the Bianconeri, Spinazzola was mostly an afterthought. He endured several loan spells before making his breakthrough with Atalanta.
His successful spell in Bergamo warranted him a chance with Max Allegri’s squad, but despite his fine performances, he was still overlooked in favor of others, perhaps perceived as a journeyman rather than a bona fide star worthy of the black and white jersey.
Therefore, Juventus swapped Spina for the young Luca Pellegrini, but the latter didn’t fare any better.
Once again, the management insisted on the mandatory loan spells, and by the time the left-back returned to Turin, he was already stripped of all the excitement and intrigue that accompanied his initial arrival.
Therefore, Juventus must learn from their previous mistakes and give Cambiaso a baptism of fire rather than pampering him with unnecessary loan stints that end up backfiring.
After all, the man is already 22, an age at which players are no longer deemed as youngsters in the rest of Europe, and it’s about time that Italy follows suit.
Perhaps he’ll make it, perhaps he won’t, but Juventus mustn’t waste several years to find out whether Cambiaso will swim or drown in the deep waters.
What a waste of talent.
Veterans over youth.
He was bought as a bait to use to make money.
I pity allegri and juve mgt.
They say winning is all that matters.
So they go for experienced old legs.
At the expense of youth who guarantee our future.they forget the future is more important than today’s success.because success is instantaneous but greatness is progressive and lasting.veterans might give you quick success but youth give you a system that guarantee growth and sustainability.
O agree, but unfortunately, nothing will change under Allegri. I can’t remember any Juve youngster that has been loaned out coming back to cement their spots in the first team. Players like Miretti, Fagioli, Soule, and Cambiaso, need to be given more playing time and be developed at Juve, not other clubs. None of these players are worse than Rabbiot, Arthur and Ramsay – none of them!
Totally agree with you. I also think Pellegrini would have done a better season than Sandro if he had the opportunity.
We prefer old players prone to injuries than youngsters eager to play. The last seasons have been awful , I don’t think they could be worse if we used the young players more games during the season.
Marchisio and Chiellini worked that way with a loan. Giovinco was a two edged sword.
The rest is like you said, unsuccessful.
What they did with Cambiaso is a disgrace. So now they have to start again looking for 2 wing-backs. I don’t get this moron Juve anymore.
They must use pellegrini and cambiaso to compete with each other. Two competative youth feeding off each other. Pedal on the gas always looking over their shoulder. Bench sandro.
Spinazolla should not have been exchanged. He was better than sandro. But guess what spina would be one of those oldies. He is already close to thirty and old seems to be getting younger and younger these days.
I disagree and agree with people at the same time. But i think its a balance. You need good vets though. Not the ones that suck the life out of a team and dont contribute.
Teams also need veterens to guide youth along. But i agree. I would rather play fagioli, miretti, and ranocchia than Adrien (why is he still on the team) Rabiot, Arthur, and Ramsey. But remember, rabiot and arthur were the youth that you all are saying allow teams to have growth and sustainability. Whoops guess it doesnt always work that way either. Remember, you gotta pick the right youth too. And with youth it might be more of a lottery.
The problem with juve has always been that homegrown is not SHINEY enough. This is not Alegris fault. He gave pellegrini the option. Did he not? He played him ahead of sandro the whole season. He ok’d the cambiaso deal. No? He also played Miretti at the end of season and gave him praise. Sure he had no choice but he did it. He is tge one who gave desiglio his chance at 18 and wanted youth over vets at AC Milan. And look at how that turned out. Now he is being hailed as a guy who hates youth. It makes no sense to me. Either people have short memories or most of you just started following the game.
Everything is not always cut and dry. The RIGHT mix of youth and vets is needed.
