Throughout the club’s history, Juventus was renowned as a club that cherishes hard work. It’s even mentioned in the club’s famous anthem “Storia di un grande amore”.
But have the Bianconeri backed away from the old philosophy under the tutelage of Max Allegri, instead adopting a lighter approach?
Earlier this summer, Matthijs de Ligt sparked controversy following his transfer to Bayern Munich when he pointed out to the stricter training adopted by the German champions.
While some were willing to disregard it as one man’s opinion, another former Juventus player has made similar remarks.
Last January, Rodrigo Bentancur made the switch to Tottenham Hotspur alongside Dejan Kulusevski. The pair were struggling for form and playing time under the guidance of Allegri, but have now cemented themselves as pillars in North London.
Bentancur described the type of work ethic enforced by Antonio Conte at Spurs, which at one point prompted him to consider quitting.
“Since I have been a professional player, the athletic training required by Conte has been the toughest I endured in my career”, revealed the midfielder as reported by ilBianconero.
“At a certain point, I thought about quitting, it was difficult”.
The Uruguayan international had joined Juventus back in the summer of 2017 and was expected to become one of the stalwarts of the club for years to come.
see? signing allegri is the biggest mistakes last year.
italiano was out of contract, we could have had a true rebuild.
Should of stuck with pirlo
They should have kept pirlo. Will see the with another sub par season that allegri was a backwards move.
Pirlo is a bit old no? He retired from the professional game and went off to fart around in the US years ago.
agree. there`s no reason Pirlo didn`t get the guarantee allegri got last year. and he did better in as rookie season.
wholeheartedly agree. Another weak move from Andrea Agnelli
if you expect anything better than top 4, and only because we have some excellent upgrades this mercato, you are a fool. with a decent coach who actually coaches, we could be scudetto winners, or even not humiliated in europe. because of agnelli`s guarantee last year i feel we have a big wait until we are great again and allegri is gone. we gave him a chance last year, and his failure was rewarded thanks to atalanta`s collapse. we must make sure they don`t make the young players the scapegoats again #IStandWithVlahovic. i look forward to brilliance from the players, but allegri will not give us the cohesion to play well and win titles.
Dude his coach is CONTE pretty sure no one works heir players harder
Agreed. It appears that the sport, at the highest levels, game has rendered Allegri’s approach “surplus to requirements”, a judgment which offers no concession for backsliding from previous achievements. Last year the squad performed much better when Max was sitting in the stands watching than when he paced the sidelines looking like a giant penguin in his mortician’s long dark coat.
