Alvaro Morata talked about his future, declaring his happiness to be at Juve, but that a return to Real is ‘a possibility.’
Real Madrid retain a buy-back option on the Spanish striker, dependant on his appearances, and Morata is eager to resolve the questions over his future.
“Speaking about next year is difficult for me, because I don’t have the certainty of knowing where I will be and this is a strange situation,” Morata told Cadena Cope.
“I can’t wait for the question of the re-purchase to be resolved. I’m happy in Turin, but I want to be able to know where I should buy a house. I want to know as soon as possible where I’ll be.
“I’m happy at Juventus, but returning to Madrid is a real possibility because there’s a contract, it was all already written. I just want all of this to be resolved.
“Pogba? He’ll do what he wants in the world of football, most of all because he trains twice as much as he’s asked to, he even trains at home, he takes care of himself and is focused on becoming the best in the world,” he said.
“With this idea and the characteristics and strength that he has, he’ll definitely become the best in the world or certainly in the top three.”
Juventus director Beppe Marotta also addressed the matter.
“The fact of Morata staying or not isn’t totally down to Juventus,” the director acknowledged.
“The clause? It’s the sword of Damocles hanging over the player’s stay. It was the only condition in taking him to Turin.”
“I would like to stay at Juventus for many more years. I really would love that a lot,” he told reporters.
“I can only say that it feels like home in Turin, but it’s not only my decision to make.
“I am playing for the biggest club in Italy and it would be wonderful to remain here. The affection the people have for Juventus all through the country is incredible. I love everything about Italy.”
Even when asked about his many spells on the bench, the Spaniard defended Max Allegri.
“The Coach is in charge and he only wants what is best for the team. He really understands football and his choices are for the good of Juventus.”
– Morata, apparently the day after the first batch of quotes appeared regarding his future.
He seems pretty clear, as he has been for many moons, that he would love to stay at the club long term. Perhaps of slight interest that he referred to us as the biggest club in Italy, rather than as one of the biggest clubs in the world, yet I will choose not to dwell on such matters.
The main point for me is that he expresses that the decision is not just down to him, which implies he has some say, but how much?
I suspect that Madrid hold sway, which makes the initial move more of a bother than I had assumed, for I was unaware that if the Spaniard was eager to remain with us for years, that Madrid could still use the buy-out clause. Yet that makes him seem like a slave, a piece of capital with zero say in his own destination. Which I continue to refuse to believe. Nope…I am concluding that the decision is up to Morata and Morata alone. So, mainly greed yet also the chance to play for a side with greater chance of consistent success in the champions league could see him head away in the Summer.
Still cannot fully accept why Beppe would have been trying to buy out the buy-out clauses! that ONLY makes sense if Real can use it regardless of the player’s will OR if Beppe does not fully trust Morata and his agent.
Any thoughts or further details, comrades?
Juve wants to keep him and Morata wants to stay, thats two out of three parties in favour of Morata staying.
I hope that is sufficient to keep our Spanish hitman here at Juve.
I am a big fan of Morata and I hope he stays. If money is of importance, I hope he gets some additional bonuses or a raise or something, he is worth his money.
I dont think Madrid will ever appreciate young Alvaro enough. I dont expect them to make him a starter in their team. Why is beyond me, he certainly fits the bill and he is Spanish for crying out loud.
Forza Morata
It does sound like the cards are held by Los Blancos, but I agree that makes him sound like a slave. How could Juve have renegotiated his contract a few months ago and have this clause remain in tact and binding? Weird. It would be a scandal for Madrid to trigger the clause only to sell him on for profit (to Arsenal the UK press are suggesting).
I think it was a show of support and recognition of his fine form last term, DB. It does seem a remarkably strange contract. I cannot believe that Morata does not have the final say…So if he goes anywhere else, I will assume it was his decision. Yet if that were the case, why is Beppe having to make moves to buy out the buy-out clause? Could he not simply have Morata give his word? The latest whispers revolve around Beppe suggesting to Madrid, that as they have no plans to use him, and intend to sell him on, we will pay the profit they would make, directly to them…Yet they could just ask another club to make a ridiculous bid and give us that price to work with. I’d be fine with us spending up to another EU20-30m to secure him on a long term contract, yet moving above that, would place his fee in total at 40-50m. Chelsea might want him at that price, or City even, or United. He would only consider teams likely to challenge for top honours.
I remain convinced the final say is with the player…
