Juventus have confirmed that Giorgio Chiellini’s surgery was a success but he is expected to miss a large portion of the season.

The Bianconeri veteran sustained a knee injury during a recent training session and appeared at the Juve Stadium last weekend on cutches.

Juventus have since confirmed Chiellini has undergone the knife via a statement on the clubs official site:

This afternoon, Giorgio Chiellini underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee. The intervention, performed at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink in the presence of the Juventus medical doctor Dr. Tzouroudis, was perfectly successful.
The expected recovery time is around 6 months.
