Juventus made a near perfect start to their title defence with a solid 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in week 1 of Serie A.

Gigi Buffon
A few brief fumbles aside, the captain was rarely troubled in goal. Could do nothing about Kalinic’s goal but other than that, the defence was rock solid.
5.5 / 10
Dani Alves
Superb debut, up and down the right flank with lots of pace and invention. Clever positioning, and a great understanding with Paulo Dybala already. Great deliveries from the right showed exactly what Juve were missing down that flank last season.
6.5 / 10
Giorgio Chiellini
Regularly ventured into the Fiorentina half in the first 45 mins and provided a pinpoint cross for Sami Khedira’s opening goal. Kept Kalinic quiet for almost the entire 90 minutes. Sturdy.
6.5 / 10
Andrea Barzagli
Strong at the back, rarely troubled by the Fiorentina attack – Made one tough challenge that resulted in a deserved booking. Otherwise untroubled.
6.0 / 10
Leonardo Bonucci
His customary self – strong in air, easily anticpiated Fiorentina attacks and played the ball out from the back with his usual accuracy.
6.0 / 10
Kwadwo Asamoah
Good to see him back in action, especially when he showed what he can offer when fully fit. Worked tirelessly in the first half, breaking up attacks and trying his luck from range. Even better as the game went on, pulling defenders out of position to create space for Higuain to score.
6.5 / 10
Sami Khedira
Regularly made runs into the box from midfield and got his reward with a perfectly placed cross from Chiellini which he headed home to put Juve into the lead. An intelligent performance all over the pitch. Man of the match
7.5 / 10
Mario Lemina
Sat in front of the defence and played a near-perfect game. Regularly broke up Fiorentina attacks, shielded the back 3 and provided an outlet. Great range of passing and was unlucky not to score. A big performance from the young midfielder.
7.0 / 10
Alex Sandro
Dangerous going forward, once he had found the right range for his delivery. Caught out for the Fiorentina equaliser and looked a little shaky defensively. A mixed performance.
6.0 / 10
Mario Mandzukic
Headed a few half-chances over the bar and looked a lonely figure in the box. Struggled to get onto the crosses from Sandro and Alves but he tracked back well and played a decent game.
6.0 / 10
Paulo Dybala
An exciting return to action for La Joya – Linked brilliantly with Alves with whom he seems to have an immediate understanding. Hit one shot onto the crossbar and performed well, considering Fiorentina marked him tightly for most of the match.
6.5 / 10
Max Allegri
Deployed his team perfectly, no change in formation, stuck with the 3-5-2 and used his players to perfect effect. Introduced Higuain at the right moment to give Juve the lead and saw out the game late on with some defensive subs.
Substitutes
Gonzalo Higuain
A near perfect debut. Came on as a sub and had an immediate impact. His positioning, his runs, his finishing….everything that Juve have lacked on occasion in previous seasons. Clinical when scoring the winner and could easily have had a second.
7.0 / 10
Patrice Evra
Came on late into the game and provided some stability at the back.
N/A
Hernanes
A late sub to wind the clock down. No real impact on the game.
Actually about Hernanez , nothing happened but he had a very dangerous turnover in the little time he played.
He did take the foul to avoid the turnover but still he should be the absolute last choice
Yeah and that’s why nothing happened i guess. This is not the first time he’s given the ball away like this either.
Some of these are wayyy off. Pretty much every analyst out there deservedly called Asamoah the man of the match, which I also agree with 100%. You have him less than Khedira, which is understandable, but Lemina? He was near invisible the entire first half and really only came to left in the last 10 minutes. Asamoah was everywhere on Saturday, be it the attacking or defending half, he was always around doing something.
Anyone else noticed that our midfield was made up of entirely of africans?
Khedira? and with the WBs Alex Sandro & Dani Alves? Africans? What? Just Asa and Mario…lol chill out with that shit…
I meant the cm’s. Khedira is Tunisian born in Germany. Didn’t mean to come off as racist. I actually thought it was pretty cool.
ah lol…makes sense
