Torino captain Ricardo Rodriguez appears to aim a dig at Juventus as he claims the Bianconeri is known around the world, but his team owns the city of Turin.
Juve and their neighbours share a rivalry, but we cannot compare both clubs on several levels.
The Bianconeri is the biggest club in Italy and Torino is not even a top-six side at the moment.
While Juve wins several trophies almost every season, Il Toro’s last trophy was finishing as runners-up in Serie B in 2011–12.
They often battle relegation while Juve plays for the league title and Champions League trophy.
This makes both clubs far apart in terms of levels, yet Rodriguez says via Calciomercato:
“In the world it is Juventus. The city belongs to Torino. There is a lot of passion, and the fans expect you to wear the shirt with pride. You can feel it at every corner.”
Juve FC Says
As the captain of his side, we expect Rodriguez to make such a ridiculous claim.
However, even he knows we are the bigger team and cannot even be compared to his employers.
It makes little sense to argue with facts, and when we meet on the pitch, we would show them who the bigger team is.
I’ve heard it many times before that Torino has got more fans in Turin than Juventus does. Maybe it’s true after all?
Nah, the Torino fans just like to… caress themselves, to indulge and spoil once in a while on this topic. Maybe, just maybe, in some neighborhoods within the city of Turin they are louder, and in some few blocks more numerous than Juventini. But keep in mind that Turin is not just the old city, but represents, after all, Metropolitan City of Turin (suburbs included), where Torino FC has even few supporters than AC Milan.
Actually Martin U. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. You really should do your research if your you’re going to have a blog. TORINO FC is actually Torino’s team. They are bigger and have more fans in the city. Think of it like Man City and Man United before Man City was bought by oil money. The city of Manchester routed for Man City. Man United who play in a suburb called Old Trafford are bigger in the outskirts of Manchester and the world. I’m not saying the main city of Torino doesn’t have Juventus fans. Just saying they are the city’s team. Juventus however has more supporters overall in the world. It’s also the fact that original Torinese are often fans of Torino FC. And those from the south the moved there for work and haven’t been there for many generations usually support Juventus. Similar to Inter liked by original Milanese and AC Milan liked by a lot more southerners and foreigners who traveled to the north of Italy for work.
He’s right. Juve is bigger overall but not in Torino; and nobody claimed Torino was more successful.
