Juventus are close to signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich according to Sky Sport Germany.

The Swiss international has struggled for playing time at the German champions and is said to be pushing for a move away in January.

Sky Sport Germany are reporting that Juventus are close to completing a deal for 23-year old playmaker. An initial move would see the Bianconeri take the player on loan for 6 months with an option to buy outright in the summer for a figure believed to be close to €20m.

Both coach Max Allegri and general manager Beppe Marotta spoke of the possibility of bringing in a trequartista to fit in with the recent change in formation and it looks like Juve have beaten off competition from the Premier League to get their man.

Shaqiri was heavily linked to the Bianconeri in the summer and spoke of a possible move to Turin shortly after the World Cup ended.

“Juve ? I don’t know if there are contacts with them or with Liverpool and Monaco.” He told Tuttosport in July.

“Surely Juve could be a good option so as Liverpool and Monaco. They are a big club, who wouldn’t like to play there ? I’m a Bayern player but I wouldn’t see Bianconeri as a step backward for my career.”
