After earning only three points from the first four matchdays, the writing was already on the wall for Juventus even before taking the trip the Lisbon.
But whatever slim hope remained for the Old Lady in reaching the Champions League knockout stages was quashed at the hands of Benfica who sealed their qualification – alongside PSG – by beating the Italian giants for the second time.
The Eagles were undeniably the better side from the get-go, and they managed to grab an early equalizer through a header courtesy of 18-year-old defender Antonio Silva.
Nonetheless, Juventus reacted by snatching a swift equalizer following a goalmouth scramble and a VAR review. Dusan Vlahovic got the credit for it.
However, Benfica rapidly restored the lead as Juan Cuadrado gave away a penalty kick after handling the ball inside the box.
Joao Mario converted from the spot, and Rafa Silva then made it 3-1 before halftime with a stunning finish.
After the interval, Rafa pounced on another disastrous defensive blunder to chip the ball over Wojciech Szczesny and pile more misery on Max Allegri’s men.
The Portuguese had some additional chances to make the result even more humiliating, but ultimately, it was the Bianconeri who attempted a late comeback by scoring twice courtesy of Arek Milik and Weston McKennie. Young substitute Samuel Iling-Junior played a key role in both goals.
However, the resurgence proved to be too little too late, as Benfica held on to win 4-3, sending Juventus packing in the process.

Actually Moise Kean got credit for the 1st goal.
It was an embarrassing performance and an embarrassing tactical approach that Allegri took. Ironically when Allegri gave up on the game and let the young players play is when we finally started to look dynamic as a team. These players have yet to be poisoned by Allegri.
Can we please get rid of Slowlegri ? Also, Slownucci was painfully slow..shows once again that he is utterly garbage without a top CB beside him
Yeah blame the coach for Mck and Rabiot’s failure to pass or trap the ball correctly, or Cuadrado’s and Bonucci’s abysmal performances.
Rabiot is ur Slowlegri’s boy…the one to trap the ball , our only defensive midfielder, Zakaria was shipped out by your Slowlegri only after 6 months coz he didn’t know how to make box to box runs like a headless chicken…Cuadrado was unfortuate..Slownucci was terrible as usual…look the coach is utterly incompetent and clueless..in the last 30 years, no coach with such record in the current season lasted at Juve
“When Allegri gave up on the game”
I would really like to have of what you’re smoking dude.
Bwhahahah what an idiot.
STFU Slowlegri’s dick rider…everyone can see that the team didn’t have the right mentality or the spirit to begin with..and that’s a coach’s job..also, no patterns of play and painfully deep defending that Benfica players were palying carrom in our 6 yard box….coz Slowlegri doesn’t know tactics
So why do u think he introduced U-23 players by taking off Vlahovic ? U r the clueless idiot here..when Slowlegri gets sacked, be his new errand boy..at least u will have a job then
By those 2 late goals getting the loss down to 4 against 3 Allegri bought himself another 5 games in charge of Juve.
