Serie A teams could return to training in May with a potential resumption of the season in June or July.

According to a report in Libero, clubs from Italy’s top league have reached an agreement over potential restart dates of either May 24 as the most optimistic, or June 7th, the least, with the most likely date somewhere in-between.

According to the report, there would be 13 rounds left to play over seven weeks, with the season ending in July.

Club presidents and coaches have voiced their opinions during the postponement of the league with Lazio owner Claudio Lotito eager to see the competition restarted while coach Simone Inzaghi, whose Benevento side are practically promoted to Serie A, stated “We are ready to play in June, July and August: we want to finish the season, any other decision will penalize someone.”

La Gazzetta Dello Sport report on similar lines, suggesting there are three possible dates to return to the pitch: May 24, May 31 or June 7.

Alongside the domestic leagues, FIFA have entertained the idea of extending player contracts beyond June 30th to help clubs finish the season.
