Juventus went ahead through goals from Juan Cuadrado and Blaise Matuidi but poor work on set-pieces saw them pegged back to 2-2 against Atletico Madrid.

Juventus Player Ratings

Szczesny: Made six saves on the night, some of them routine, some of them all the more spectacular. His presence in goal can’t be underestimated on European nights.  6.5/10

Danilo: An average night for the full-back who started poorly and was constantly barked at by Bonucci. Stepped a little as the game progressed and looked more assured, especially at the back. 5.5/10

Leonardo Bonucci: An excellent night from the captain who led from the back, organising those around him while making some great interceptions and clearances.  7.0/10

Matthijs De Ligt: A record nine clearances, more than any other player, and really encouraging signs that he is starting to find his feet in the Bianconeri back-line. 6.5/10

Alex Sandro: Three interceptions, four clearances, two dribbles and an assist on the night – Another strong display from the left-back who seems to be recovering his form under Sarri. 6.5/10

Midfield

Sami Khedira: You can make the argument that Juventus conceded after he left the pitch, as they did against Napoli, but he offered so little when he was on the pitch that his presence was negligible. He offered precious little at the back and not much more going forward. 5.0/10

Blaise Matuidi: Woeful in the opening half, miscuing his passes and rocketing a good chance wide of the far post. Looked a different player in the second, getting into good positions and driving into the Atletico box – Took his goal really well and continued to drive the team forward as the game closed out. 7.0/10

Miralem Pjanic: Another tidy performance, great distribution and speedy passing  – Looks as though he will become the fulcrum for Sarri’s game plan, but it may take a while before he manages those 150 passes every match. 6.0/10

Attack

Juan Cuadrado: Abject in the opening period with wayward crosses and poor decision-making in the final third. Another improved player in the second period, highlighted by a sumptuous finish to make it 1-0. A useful player who can deliver moments of brilliance but no constsiency. 7.0/10

Gonzalo Higuain: The assist for Cuadrado’s opener was perfectly weighted but much of the night, he cut a frustrated figure, barely managing a chance on goal. The one time he did get the ball in a great position, he contrived to shoot straight at Oblak instead of squaring it to Cristiano. 5.5/10

Cristiano Ronaldo: Looked frustrated at times, and when nothing was on, he was restricted to shooting from outside the box. Got himself into good positions on a few occasions but wasn’t helped – Had a great run late on that was just inches wide of finding the net. 6.0/10

Substitutes

Rodrigo Bentancur : Played the final 20 minutes and while his passing was ok, there was little else on display. 5.0/10

Paulo Dybala: Ten minutes wasn’t long enough for him to little more than be fouled by Atleti players. N/A

Aaron Ramsey: Made his debut and got 7 minutes or so into his legs. N/A
