Well, this wasn’t you’re most exciting deadline day, wasn’t it? No last minute signings popping out of nowhere, no mysterious cars entering the club’s quarters, no jugglers, no anything. For Juventus, it was a quiet day at the office.
This statement might sound incredibly ludicrous on a day where the club had announced the sale of the biggest star in the sport, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United had already been a done deal since Friday. The same goes for Moise Kean’s return to Turin which was also announced today.
Whilst several midfielders were heavily linked with a move to the club during the past few weeks, the likes of Miralem Pjanic and Axel Witsel didn’t arrive. Instead, a young Dutch midfielder called Mohamed Ihattaren joined the Old Lady, only to be immediately sent to Sampdoria on loan.
Speaking of the Blucerchiatti, they also emerged as the surprising destination for another young Juventus prospect. Radu Dragusin was expected to join Cagliari, but somehow ended up completing a loan move towards the Ligurian club.
Also on the youngsters’ front, Nicolo Fagioli left Turin to join Serie B side Cremonese on loan, whilst his U-23 teammate Filippo Ranocchia will be playing in the same league, wearing Vicenza’s colors.
Despite being heavily linked with an exit, Weston McKennie ended up staying at Juventus, and the same goes for Daniele Rugani and Luca Pellegrini.
There you have it folks, a not-so-eventful deadline day that rounds up an average-at-best summer transfer market.
This will be a difficult season for this team. On top of the poor culture and lack of team play there is a serious quality question with our midfielders especially – we have Locatelli and a bunch of question marks. Time will tell but I imagine many have questions for this team.
This was an offseason that was all about fixing the mistakes of the past several years made by the club that needed to happen. The truth is, buying Ronaldo, Arthur, Ramsey, Rabiot (especially with their wages),firing Allegri, hiring Sarri, hiring Pirlo, etc. were all major mistakes when the team was in need of some rebuilding. The last two transfer windows have included the additions of Chiesa, McKennie, Kean, and Locatelli are closer to the solid business practices of Juve’s past. It is more about being realistic about the problem and how to fix it. Juventus solved one of its biggest issues with unloading Ronaldo’s salary alone. I also think the current squad even with it’s problems is enough for Allegri to mold into a very good team this season. The team hasn’t been playing well at all for 2 straight years (partially due to Ronaldo / partially due to the lack of management). For those still saying Juve’s mid is terrible, I will hold my judgment until I see Rabiot, Locatelli, and McKennie get more chemistry together (Ramsey, Bentancur, and Danilo are not an accurate representation of what the mid will actually look like this season at all). I am far more optimistic going into this season than I was going into last season, that is for sure.
I agree. I was a bit optimistic before the season started. but seeing the slow start of the season It’s a bit Nervous for all juve fans. My feeling is after the international break juve must step up. Allegri knows about this situation. However the difference this Time around is juve has more younger players. Allegri could use two formation 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. My advise to max allegri play players in their correct position
the fact that Aouar on loan is missing it a damning verdict on this mercato. Locatelli and Kean highlights, along with rid of the portuguese poser we pandered to round our necks although we have been fleeced byunited and him. Jorge we will see, but overall 5/10
