New Turkish defender Merih Demiral calls his Juventus move a ‘dream come true’ while playing alongside Giorgio Chiellini is a ‘great honour’.

The 21-year-old joined Juve at the start of the summer and while it was originally suggested he may go out on loan, he impressed enough in the summer to remain with the Bianconeri.

“I am very happy to be at Juventus, I know this club is very important and Its fortunate for me to play here,” he told the gathered press.

“To get here I made a lot of effort, but everything is based on work. Being at Juve is a dream come true for me.

“When I go out onto the pitch, I always give the best of myself and I think the fans appreciate this aspect.

“Being the first Turkish player at Juve is a great honor. I will try to be a role model for all those who follow me.

“I knew that Juve was a very important team, but reaching this team and seeing the setup here impressed me a lot. I hope to stay here for a long time.

“Having the chance to play with those I followed as a child is a great honor. Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and the others are giving me a big hand.

“At the age of 18 I left my home to move to Portugal. I wanted to grow as quickly as possible. I had dreams to achieve, and now, I was able to realize a great dream coming to Juventus.

“Having played at Sassuolo gave me the opportunity to gain experience in the Italian championship. Being a defender in Italy means having to grow from a technical-tactical point of view.

“Sarri? He is very concerned with the defensive aspect, and for me this is very important. He takes care of the defenders’ training directly, working directly with him means having the possibility to improve the weak points.

The young centre back has earned comparisons with another Bianconeri defender from the past.

“I heard a lot about Paolo Montero, I also saw his videos. Being compared to him is a great honor.

“I’ve always had idols, but my real idols are the people I’m playing with right now: Chiellini. I’m lucky to play with him.

“With Emre Can, the same culture binds us, it’s helping me a lot on and off the pitch.”
