PSG striker Edinson Cavani is Juve’s primary target in the summer according to the latest reports from the Italian papers.

A number of Italian dailies including Gazzetta Dello Sport and Tuttosport suggest that Juventus striker Alvaro Morata will be leaving the club in the summer, making Uruguayan striker Cavani the Bianconeri’s main target to replace him.

Morata’s departure is reported as a forgone conclusion, factoring in Real Madrid’s £30m buy-back option on the striker. It’s suggested that the Spanish club will bring Morata back to Madrid before selling him on to a Premier League club at a profit.

The papers report that Juve will offer Cavani a 4-year-deal with a salary believed to be €7m per season, €1m shy of his current deal at PSG.

If one were to stop and look at this ‘story’ objectively, you could see that:

  1. Morata has never expressed a desire to leave Juventus and has said on several occasions that he wishes to stay at the club for the foreseeable future
  2. Juve have a salary structure that means paying Cavani €7m a season is highly unlikely
  3. Cavani currently earns more than €7m a season at PSG
  4. It’s obviously very quiet on the transfer stuff so it’s better to rehash an old story rather than actually report on something of note

As you were…
