Man City 1-2 Juventus Champions League Player Ratings

September 15, 2015 - 10:30 pm

Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata scored their first goals of the season as Juventus fought back from a goal down to secure a vital win against Manchester City.

The Bianconeri started the brighter of the two teams and wrongly had a goal disallowed for offside. City took the lead soon into the second half with a dubious own-goal before Pogba played a perfect overhead ball to Mario Mandzukic to equalise.

Juan Cuadrado had a superb game on the night and it was his quick feet that provided the assist for Alvaro Morata to bury the ball into the top of the net for Juve’s winner.

Do you agree with our ratings ? Have your say below.

Gigi Buffon

Could do nothing for City’s opening goal but performed a remarkable double save to keep the score at 1-0. Performed 5 great saves on the night and led the team as only he can.

8.5 / 10

Stephan Lichtsteiner

Didn’t really have to push forward too much tonight as Cuadrado provided the attacking threat. Struggled to contain Sterling at times.

6.5/ 10

Leonardo Bonucci

Bought the ball out from the back and looked more confident than in recent weeks. Solid not spectacular.

6.5 / 10

Giorgio Chiellini

Headed into his own net when Kompany climbed all over him – should have been awarded a foul. Other than that, he was a rock at the heart of the defence. Won everything and didn’t get intimiated by the City attack.

7.0 / 10

Patrice Evra

Ran the left flank with relative ease. Got forward when he could but spent most of his night defending, and defending well.

6.5 / 10

Hernanes

Sat in at the heart of the midfield and distributed the ball well enough. Had a great effort from a free-kick but little else. A good display.

6.5 / 10

Stefano Sturaro

Poor in the first half but a transformed player in the second. Almost pulled Juve level but for a good save from Hart.

6.5/10

Paul Pogba

Frustrating in the first half when he failed to do the simple things, but he improved in the second and played a delightful overhead assist for Juve’s equaliser.

7.0/10

Juan Cuadrado

A brilliant full debut, causing City problems down the right while tracking back to cover with Lichtsteiner. Provided the assist for the winner – A much needed versatile player for the new look Juve.

7.0 /10

Alvaro Morata

Struggled to keep the ball or string a pass together in the first half, a different player in the second. Left Otamendi for dead when he latched on to Cuadrado’s assist to fire past Hart.

7.0 / 10

Mario Mandzukic

Missing for much of the first half but he failed to get any real service of note. Scored Juve’s equaliser with a great poachers effort.

6.5 / 10

The offside on Pogba’s goal was the right call – as much as it pains me to say it. Morata made a play for the ball, therefore the officials judged him to be involved in the play. If he’d just checked his run, and possibly if he even just didn’t extend for the ball then you could say it was wrongly disallowed.

I’d buy him in January for anything under 25m. With Berardi coming back next season, and Real hinting at taking Morata back in the summer, he could be very useful.

That game was awesome. Had pretty decent seats too. Pirlo made Toronto look stupid a few times. Gio had some good moments, but Toronto were pretty awful.
