Cristiano Ronaldo’s former trainer says the player is resting and the postponement of the Serie A campaign “will help him recharge his batteries.”

The 35-year-old Portuguese international has returned home to Madeira during the lockdown to be with his mother and family.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his former trainer Leonel Pontes believes the break will do him good.

“This rest, especially at his age, will help him recharge his batteries, retain that hunger and desire to play,” Pontes told Gazzetta.

“The incredible thing is not that Ronaldo is so good at 35, but his consistency.

It’s simply inhuman to be at the top level for so many years, changing countries, teams and even positions.”
