Juventus started the brightest and dominated the first half but were ultimately held to a disappointing 1-1 draw.

The Bianconeri spent the first 45 minutes camped in Sampdoria’s half as Roberto Pereyra and Paul Pogba pushed forward from midfield to assist the attack. Sampdoria’s defence seemed resolute until Patrice Evra rose highest to head the ball past Romero.

The second half saw the introduction of Manolo Gabbiadini and it was the co-owned Sampdoria striker who curled his effort perfectly past Buffon to equalise. Juve pushed forward but were ultimately unable to break down a stubborn Samp.

Gianluigi Buffon

Tested by Gastaldello from a Samp corner and was on hand to deny the visitors all three points with an incredible one-handed save on Gabbiadini. Stood no chance against Samp’s opener. Superman.

Stephan Lichtsteiner

Industrious and tireless today. Ran the right flank with consummate ease and was on hand to provide an attacking outlet as well as defending everything Samp threw at him.

6.5 / 10

Angelo Ogbonna

Covered well for the suspended Giorgio Chiellini. Solid enough on Samp’s set piece’s but was caught out of position on a few occasions.

6.5 / 10

Leonardo Bonucci

Made a few decent sliding tackles along with some headed clearances. Gave the ball away once but played a great match overall.

6.5 / 10

Patrice Evra

A player much improved since his early season performances. Linked up with Pogba for much of the game providing Juve with width while delivering cross after cross to trouble the Samp defences. Scored Juve’s only goal with a clinical header. Excellent.

7.5 / 10

Roberto Pereyra

Started brilliantly and tested Romero on more than one occasion. Got into the box as often as he could but was unable to make his efforts count.

6.5 / 10

Claudio Marchisio

Supplied the assist that put Juve ahead and his delivery from corners in general was an improvement on Juve’s normal efforts. Forced a save from Romero and was a constant thorn in Samp’s side. Maestro.

7.5 / 10

 Paul Pogba

Excellent throughout without being exceptional. Ran the left flank with Evra providing the overlapping runs and should have had a goal of his own. One of his better recent displays.

6.5 / 10

 Arturo Vidal

Thoroughly disappointing but that might be more to do with the high standard we’ve come to expect from him. Made 2 very poorly timed tackles and could have been sent off. Looped his header onto the top of the net and struggled to keep his shots on target. Needs to rediscover his form from last season.

5.5 / 10

Carlos Tevez

At the heart of the Juve attack throughout the first half. Bought a save out of Romero early on and seemed to perform better for having Morata on the pitch with him.

6.5 / 10

Alvaro Morata

Started brightly and linked up well with Tevez. His movement and pace gave Juve some extra thrust early on but he drifted out of the game in the second half.
