Juventus are confident of signing right-back Joao Cancelo as negotiations continue with Valencia over a transfer this summer.

The full-back had a positive season in Italy following a loan spell with Inter, however the Nerazzurri were not prepared to spend €40m on the player, due to  Financial Fair Play restrictions.

The Bianconeri are in talks with Valencia representatives who arrived in Italy yesterday and Sky Sport Italia and Goal Italia report that while a deal is yet to be agreed, the talks are progressing positively.

Juventus are hoping to spread the cost over several years, possibly taking Cancelo on loan for a season before making his move permanent next summer.

Despite the ongoing talks, Cancelo expressed some unhappiness at quotes used by Italian paper Tuttosport in a story this morning.

The paper took his words in a previous interview out of context and ran with the headline ‘Cancelo calls Juventus’

“My future? I can’t rule out anything but my objective is surely to play in the Champions League. The player I liked most in Serie A? I’m a fan of Douglas Costa, he has a lot of quality, he’s fast and also decisive. The fullbacks that I liked? I’d say Alex Sandro and Kolarov.”

Responding via Instagram, Cancelo replied with a picture of the headline and the words: “Wtf? When people don’t know how to do their jobs.”
