Juventus are in pole position to sign PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The Argentine forward has a contract with the French champions until June 2016 but according to reports, both the player and the club are looking to arrange a move in January.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus are in pole position in the race to sign El Pochco having offered more than Inter Milan.
The Bianconeri are believed to be proposing a contract until 2018 with a salary of €3m per season.
Lavezzi’s agent Alejandro Mazzoni is expected to meet with Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici this week to discuss Juve’s offer.
I can understand why we were interested a month or so back. Yet that was when we were missing so many players and in dire form. He is not a first team starter for a PSG side which I feel are below our potential with the players presently and soon to be available. The move only makes sense if we are seeking to purchase Cuadrado, and play him on the right, Lavezzi on the left. Which would only work with Morata or Mandzukic in the middle. The system with Mandzukic, who is finding form, and Dybala, with Khedira and Asamoah to return to full fitness over the coming weeks, and Pereyra also to become finally available, is looking fine and potent in all competitions. Unless one of our forwards, namely Zaza, are heading out, I see no value from this move whatsoever. Our interest has surely waned to nothingness, especially with no news forthcoming on the Cuadrado purchase. In short, we don’t need him.
If it were for free next summer, i can see the sense in it. The rumours keep putting us in the lead but Lavezzi stikers me as an ‘Inter’ kind of player, I can see him going there.
the positives for such a move as i see them are that:
– he’d be cheap
– He can play wide or as a second striker
– he’s familiar with Serie A
– He wants the move
The downside
– His salary is too high
– he’s getting on in years
– He isn;t the most prolific and he has been known to struggle for form
Interesting to see where we head from here but i agree on your points about the striker system as it stands – we have players that are finding a rhythm with one another – why disrupt it ?
I’ve also assumed that he will be heading to Inter. A spark of flair to add to their machine like qualities. It is easy to see him in their colours. We need a RB and if possible Hernanes moved on and another trequartista or creative central player brought in his place. We will have Pereyra back who is perfect in that role in a 4-3-1-2 I believe. Dybala could also play the 1 in that system, with Mandzukic and Morata up top.
I do not think we need to spend big on anyone established. At least not in January, though I would be happy to see a young, talented adjusted to Serie A midfielder of a creative variety brought in to the ranks…Saponara fits the bill on those scores.
With the squad still nowhere near a state of having everyone available, and signs of settling into a rhythm of sorts recently, I would rather wait and see how we fare with what we have than bring in a player whose presence we will yet again have to work around and adjust to accommodate.
Wouldn’t mind Guarin…He was always wonderful as a kid on the old football manager series! Too costly now, and we have already been stung once from that wretched crowd with Hernanes. Seems wrong to give up on the Brazilian so soon. Let us see if he can be given more chances when the team has improved and has momentum and form.
I actually have seen some rumors about Guarin but no thanks now. Regarding the RB I would like to see us go after Vrsaljko, he impresses me. Also I don’t see Caceres sticking around after this summer either
Ahhh…JM! It was more a reference to my FM days. I do not seriously see us repeating the Hernanes routine with the same club. Yet as I mentioned elsewhere, or perhaps I dreamt it, I am not yet concluding that Hernanes is a terrible signing. He has been poor, but so have others, and now the team is finding its feet, who is to say that once he returns to fitness, and he enters a side in good form, that we will see the best of him, or at least a semblance of value in our investment. I continue to believe…Class is permanent. Form is temporary.
We have been linked with Vrsaljko too often for our interest to be merely conjecture. And we have good relations with Sassuolo. However Widmer of Udinese is another under consideration as is Van Der Wiel (PSG). We also have Joel Untersee on loan at Vaduz, who has been progressing well in Switzerland, yet is probably not yet experienced enough, though could make an interesting understudy to his compatriot Lichsteiner, for free.
Indeed, I assume Caceres is off. His off field antics of late coupled with his shocking injury record make him a likely departure. A shame, as I have always enjoyed his physicality, pace and determination.
i like the idea of a shiny new trequartista…..but i’m not convinced on Dybala playing behind a front two. He has the perfect qualities to play in that second striker type role, playing off Mandzukic. They seem to have an understanding now and God bless Allegri for persistng with that duo. It’s paying off !
Guarin…that takes me back to when he was one the verge of leaving Porto – he said ‘I will only leave Porto for Juventus’. Wish that move had come off. Then of course there was the Vucinic/inter debacle. Perhaps in another year or so….
Off topic but if anyone has any questions for a QUALITY fiorentina blogger, please post them here – Anything at all you want to know about Juve v Fiorentina
Fuck that and go for Berardi, we dont need Lavezzi
I totally agree. Why do we need this guy. Berardi is the future.
Yeah I want to see Juve keep up putting faith in young talent with future. Lavezzi isnt bad but i dont see any need to sign him
